A draft and a review can need different effort
GitHub updated HydraFusion on October 14 and introduced HydraFusion Max. Both remain research previews across VS Code, the Copilot app, and Copilot CLI. GitHub says the orchestration now varies reasoning effort by stage and gives critique workflows more direct access to inspect the actual workspace. Max is tuned for more demanding work.
Availability depends on an eligible Copilot plan, enabled preview features, and organization model policies. The announcement describes how the system is designed; it does not prove that every project needs the more intensive option.
Match review effort to the consequence
Our suggested approach is to decide the review question before asking for more AI effort. For a harmless text change, you might need a clear diff and a quick check that the right words changed. For an import script, you might need evidence about empty files, duplicate records, and how to recover from a bad input.
Give the reviewer a concrete target: inspect the changed files and identify a way the new behavior could fail. Ask for supporting evidence, such as a specific branch or reproducible input, instead of a reassuring summary. Agreement between models still leaves you needing evidence.
This also makes the review easier to stop. If the acceptance conditions are already met and no unresolved issue remains, another round of discussion may add little value. If the reviewer found a genuine problem, repair that problem and recheck the affected behavior.
A small comparison you can actually finish
Use a disposable project with a simple file converter. Define three inputs and their expected outputs before running either option. Give each the same starting files and task, then compare the final behavior, the changes you had to make, and the time you spent reviewing.
Do not assume our suggested exercise predicts broader benchmark performance. Its value is local: it helps you decide whether deeper orchestration improves the kind of work you actually do.
Try this, then make it yours.
Before your next coding request, write one failure case you want the reviewer to investigate.
