Sonnet 5.5 makes a case for faster feedback loops

The interesting part of Anthropic’s everyday model refresh is how quickly you can check and improve a draft.

What changed

Anthropic introduced Claude Sonnet 5.5 on September 28. Its announcement emphasizes faster generation, everyday document and spreadsheet work, bug fixes, and design tasks. The company reports output more than 30 percent faster than Sonnet 5 and lower costs per completed task in its testing. It also says Opus remains stronger on complex, open-ended work. Those distinctions are useful context: a model’s name or benchmark score does not tell you how well it will handle your particular assignment.

Our take: iteration is the feature

For a class presentation, the best first draft is often simply the one you can improve. Our practical interpretation is that a quicker model can help you compare two structures, spot a confusing slide, and rewrite a paragraph while your idea is still fresh. But filling a deck faster does not establish that its facts are correct. Separate the jobs: supply verified material, ask for a structure, then check how faithfully the output follows it. Good feedback is specific. Explain which audience a sentence should serve and what information it needs to preserve.

Give it a useful finish line

Start with one page you wrote yourself. Ask for a clearer version that keeps every number and factual statement, followed by a list of changes. Compare the result line by line. Then request a second version for a different audience, such as a beginner rather than a teammate. Judge the model on clarity, factual fidelity, and the number of edits needed before you would use the page. This turns a vague promise of productivity into a small, observable test. We have not run that comparison for this release, so treat it as a suggested experiment.

YOUR NEXT MOVE

Try this, then make it yours.

Rewrite one page for two audiences, checking that every fact survives both versions.
