What the policy announcement says
Anthropic published an updated Usage Policy on October 8, scheduled to take effect November 12. The company says most changes clarify existing rules as Claude handles longer and more independent tasks. One new section consolidates restrictions on deceptive campaigns and artificial activity, including hiding who is behind a message and amplifying content through fake accounts. Anthropic says the section covers commercial as well as political activity. This is a provider’s policy announcement, not a claim that every AI service has the same rules.
Our take: assistance needs an honest frame
Consider the difference between getting help with a product description and inventing twenty happy customers. In the first case, a real person has something to communicate. In the second, the audience is being shown evidence that does not exist. Our editorial view is that the same distinction applies to synthetic comments, fake testimonials, and fabricated expert personas. A creator can use AI to clarify an idea while keeping responsibility for the message. The trouble begins when the output pretends to be independent support from other people.
A quick credibility check
Before posting an AI-assisted claim, ask three questions: who is speaking, what is their connection to the subject, and what evidence supports the statement? If a draft says customers love a feature, replace that sentence with something you can substantiate or remove it. If money changes hands, give readers a clear label and enough context to understand the relationship. These are our practical editorial standards, rather than a legal checklist. They make your work easier to trust and easier to stand behind when someone follows up. Helpful communication should leave the audience with a clearer picture of reality.
Try this, then make it yours.
Check a draft for invented testimonials, unsupported popularity claims, and hidden commercial relationships.
Follow the signal.
