A second reader, not a stamp
Google Research announced Deep Review’s public release on October 14. The agentic system reviews complex documents, initially accepting PDF and plain-text inputs. Google describes feedback on logic, mathematical statements, factual grounding and related work. It says users receive two complimentary reviews per week, with higher usage available through a connected Gemini API key.
There is an upload decision before there is a review decision. Google states that uploaded documents are not used to train or improve its models, but are stored for one year for display in the tool. That is not the same as no retention. Use only material you are authorized to share. We have not tested the service.

Sort the comment before changing the sentence
Our suggested workflow gives each comment one of three destinations: evidence, reasoning or presentation. An evidence comment asks whether a claim has support. A reasoning comment asks whether the conclusion follows. A presentation comment asks whether the explanation is understandable.
Imagine a public proposal for a campus repair café. An AI reviewer questions the estimated attendance, the calculation of volunteer hours and the wording of the introduction. Those are three different jobs. The attendance estimate needs a source or an honest assumption. The hours need recalculation. The introduction needs an editorial decision. Rewriting all three for confidence would not resolve all three problems.
For each substantial comment, record the exact passage, what you need to check and what would settle it. An objection that sounds sophisticated may still misunderstand your scope. Keep the option to reject feedback, but record why rather than dismissing it because it is inconvenient.
Keep the original visible
Work on a copy and keep the starting document available. If you prefer annotating a short paper copy, the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw (affiliate link) is one optional print/copy/scan device; check HP’s current system requirements, toner costs and cartridge restrictions before considering it. Your existing printer or a second on-screen copy is enough for this method.

Do not print the whole review automatically. Select one disputed paragraph and its supporting material. Write your decision beside it: corrected, clarified, unsupported or unchanged with a reason. That small record is more useful than collecting pages of feedback you never resolve.
Finally, check that a revision did not introduce a new claim. In the fictional proposal, changing an uncertain turnout estimate into a definite promise would make the prose smoother and the document less trustworthy. Ask whether the revised statement is still supported by the information you actually have.
For specialist or consequential documents, an AI review does not replace the relevant qualified reviewer. The aim is to arrive with sharper questions and a cleaner account of your own decisions, not to outsource responsibility for the final document.
Try this, then make it yours.
Use one page of your own non-sensitive writing. Choose three review comments and give each a category, a verification step and a recorded decision.
